Dead by Daylight will release its Chorus of Sin chapter on 25 August, adding a new killer called The Judgment and a survivor named Aurora. The update follows more than a year of community involvement through The Grimoire, a development project that allowed players to vote on parts of the chapter as it took shape.
Behaviour Interactive has already opened the content for testing on PC. The Public Test Build gives players an early opportunity to examine the new abilities, perks and balance changes, although individual values may be adjusted before the full release reaches every supported platform.
The timing extends a busy summer for the asymmetrical horror game. Its Summer Screams programme has brought back temporary formats including Chaos Shuffle, Lights Out and 2v8, giving players different ways to approach the familiar contest between killers and survivors.
Chaos Shuffle assigns perks randomly instead of allowing players to prepare a chosen build. That unpredictability may be familiar to visitors at BetTOM casino, but here it changes the tactical conditions of a skill-based match. Both sides must identify what they have been given and adapt before the opposing team understands their limitations.
How does The Judgment work in Dead by Daylight?
The Judgment introduces a ranged power called Will of the Gods. Its main attack, Divine Light, can be directed away from the killer before being cast forwards. Survivors caught by the active beam take damage and receive a condition known as Heresy.
Preparing the beam for longer changes how it behaves. The casting delay becomes shorter and the active period lasts longer, giving The Judgment an incentive to plan an attack before releasing it. Obstacles slow Divine Light while it is being controlled, so the killer cannot direct it freely through every part of the map.
Heresy creates additional problems for survivors working on generators. Special skill checks appear during repairs, and even a good result can remove some generator progress. Affected players can reduce Heresy by repenting at Shrines of Judgment placed around the trial.
This creates a choice between continuing an important repair and taking time to clear the condition. Survivors who ignore Heresy may lose progress later, while those who leave a generator give The Judgment more time to patrol the area.
The Public Test Build also gives the killer a separate Exile ability. A dying survivor affected by Heresy can be sent into Exile instead of being carried to a hook. The action still gives the survivor a hook state, but it creates a different rescue sequence involving active shrines.
Why could Exile change survivor teamwork?
A survivor inside Exile receives a Searcher’s Pendant and must collect helpful souls while avoiding damaging hazards. Other survivors can pray at an active Shrine of Judgment to complete the rescue.
This separates the usual rescue process across two locations. In a standard hook situation, teammates know where they need to travel and can often see the killer moving away. Exile asks one player to act inside the area while somebody else interacts with a shrine elsewhere on the map.
The system could make communication more important. A coordinated group can decide who continues repairing, who draws the killer away and who heads towards the shrine. Players entering a public lobby without voice communication may have to rely more heavily on movement, icons and an understanding of what their teammates are trying to do.
The Judgment gains a temporary state called Zealous after using Exile. During that period, Divine Light becomes larger and recovers more quickly. Heretics can also be briefly revealed through Killer Instinct, giving the killer information that may lead directly into another chase.
These connected mechanics mean Exile is more than an alternative hook animation. It affects rescue responsibilities, survivor positioning and the strength of the killer’s next attack.
What perks arrive with Aurora?
Aurora brings three new survivor perks. Fruits of Your Labor rewards completed generators with tokens. When Aurora later finishes repairing another generator, those tokens provide a short burst of speed and some healing progress.
The perk encourages survivors to remain active in the main objective rather than waiting for somebody else to finish repairs. Its value should increase later in the match, but only if enough generators have already been completed to build the required tokens.
Salvation’s Cry is centred on chase information. When the killer begins pursuing its user, survivor auras become visible briefly. Teammates outside the chase can also see the pursued survivor and the killer for several seconds.
That information may help a team decide whether to remain on generators, move towards a rescue or leave an area before the chase reaches them. The perk does not stop the killer or protect the targeted player directly, so its effect depends on whether the team acts on what it reveals.
Boon: Steadfast takes a more defensive approach. Generators inside its range regress more slowly and can be repaired faster. Survivors in the area can also see the auras of affected generators.
The position of the blessed totem will matter. A well-placed boon could protect several useful generators, while an exposed location may allow the killer to remove the effect before the team gains much benefit.
Which balance changes accompany Chorus of Sin?
The 10.1.0 test build goes beyond the two new characters. It adjusts a number of existing perks, including Sprint Burst, Deliverance, Adrenaline, Vigil and A Nurse’s Calling.
Sprint Burst currently gives a shorter period of additional speed in the test version, while Adrenaline grants a slightly longer speed increase after the generators are completed. Deliverance applies the Broken condition for longer when a survivor unhooks themselves.
Killer perks are also being reviewed. Call of Brine receives a longer active period, while Coulrophobia has a weaker effect on healing speed. Nowhere to Hide is being reworked so its aura reading relates to the damaged generator rather than following the killer’s position.
Changes tested before release are not always carried into the final update without revision. Player feedback, match data and unintended combinations can lead Behaviour Interactive to alter figures before the chapter reaches the live game.
The update also adds a gameplay showcase section outside matches. Players will be able to review killer powers through written explanations and short example videos, which should make an increasingly large character roster easier to understand.
Why Chorus of Sin is unusual for Dead by Daylight
Licensed chapters often attract the widest attention because they bring recognised horror characters into the Fog. Chorus of Sin has a different selling point. Its identity has been shaped in public through community voting and testing rather than being drawn from an established film or game series.
That process does not guarantee that every player will agree with the final design. It does, however, give the chapter a history that most original additions do not have. Parts of The Judgment and Aurora were discussed long before either character became playable.
The chapter now faces its most important test. Divine Light must feel dangerous without becoming unavoidable, Exile must create meaningful decisions without slowing matches excessively, and Aurora’s perks must offer useful options without replacing established choices.
Players will receive the live version on 25 August. Until then, feedback from the test build will help determine whether the community-created ideas work as effectively inside a full match as they did during development.
